Because most of them are in their 70s
Because Republican and Democratic politicians don’t actually agree on legalizing marijuana.
Raised wealthy and older than the average person. Guess who's not in favor of weed as much as the general populace? Older people. Add those 2 together, mix in that most of them are white and can and probably do various illicit drugs knowing they can never get in trouble for it and then you end up with the apathy to any law changes that they have. They get power and control by keeping the laws in place, and get all the benefits of legalization too basically.
Hate to break the bubble cause I was excited for this too, but it is not being introduced on Wednesday which is tomorrow. It is merely a discussion draft to show the bill off and is not being officially filed or introduced. It really fucking sucks cause its just waiting and waiting and more waiting and more waiting. And then when it finally gets introduced, it will have lots of hurdles to jump through considering the language that is supposed to be in the bill. Federal marijuana legalization in the United States is a shitshow but I am trying to stay optimistic even though it may not seem like it lol.
So it’s like a meeting before a meeting to discuss how to proceed with the meeting.
Sadly it's probably 2-4 years away from passing. Maybe less if more states legalize. Delaware and Rhode island are getting pretty close and PA may too, and I'm sure other states will have it on the ballot in 2022 a year and a half from now. Hopefully that pushes some action if the wave of green states keeps up
When was the last time politicians at the federal level willingly gave up power over peoples lives? Keeping it illegal gives the politicians in the Federal Government enormous power over all of us. The Republicans campaign to keep it illegal to get votes, the democrats campaign to legalizing it to get votes. Neither side want to give up that sweet fund raising and votes that they get from this issue.
Because then they cant campaign with promises of legalization to get the 18-25 vote, and those sweet, sweet alcohol and tobacco lobby pay offs to keep it illegal
What’s going on on Wednesday
A congress member is introducing a bill to
It’s almost like… maybe they don’t actually want to?
Because old people
Cause Boomers are terrible
Bc their god is a cunt.
I hope the US legalize it soon, basically if the Us do it every other country will too. At least in my country for sure.
Not sure how you figure that. What country are you in?
Don't forget, about 35% of the US states are still keeping it illegal for financial reasons.
Just curious but wouldn’t they make more taxing it
Wait, I've never seen this stat. There are really that many states where it is legal?
While voters of both parties may approve, the GOP in congress remains adamantly opposed to anything that would give the Democrats a win.
Because they believe in racism more.
When TF did Republicans think weed should be legal? Unless we're talking constituents?
Because the republicans in office don’t. How else can they lock up black folks for such a minor thing
The Democrats control the house, senate and White House. How many more excuses are we going to give them?
Yes, let’s forget about the 94 crime bill, rep also trying to legalize, and the fact that Dem control all 3…
I mean you’re wrong and not wrong
more Republican states have legalized than Democrat states
Still won’t be an issue to claim to smell it at a traffic stop and have to investigate further. They’ll “find” something, somehow.
True, I'm a Republican, I think it's good for business and the economy. I just don't want anyone to hotbox their kids, but criminals will do bad things whether it's legal or not.
You identified yourself as a republican on Reddit?! Brave man.
They're looking for a way to gain something from it. Don't let an opportunity go to waste is the politicians way of thinking.
Blame Nixon. DEA needs studies to lower schedule if the president makes a move like that, there are no studies because it’s been a schedule 1 drug for generations, DEA now has to base all studies of weed off of years-old shit out of Ole Miss.
For prison labor
I worry that if we see unity from politicians on any given subject, that it is probably lining lots of someones's pockets and is actually a detriment to the people.
