Fellow preemie dad here. The NICU is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. If you haven’t already, you should check out
Seconded. Those were the longest days and weeks of my life. It’s an incredibly supportive subreddit
Came here to say this. Legit terrifying. Even thinking about it makes me tear up. But you'll get there dad. Too easy. Just touch and sing and let them know they are loved through every single moment. Don't let them feel alone. I sat with my hand on my daughter and sang her paratrooper songs for days. Never left her beyond using the toilet. She was so little. Just like your little fella. No one would tell me she'd be OK. Hardest time in my life, and I've seen some shit. But she made it. And it's the best 6 years I've ever had. And I can honestly say... we have the best relationship... and I think it's partially because she heard and felt me and knows I'll never let her go. That's one handsome guy you got there btw. Me and mine are thinking of you and yours. Gotta go... I got something in my eye
Man, I know I had trauma with the roller-coaster of just a 4 week premature IUGR baby that wasn't in the NICU. I cannot imagine how hard what you all are going through is.
Yep great sub. 30+5 here.
We think of you, Dad, and I love showing my wife your weekly updates!
Same here with my family. You've got a whole family rooting for yours!
Hahahahah all of the comments in this thread make us very happy! I'm glad that he gets so much love! My wife literally reads every comment just like I do, and these types are very special to us. Thanks for that.
I have to third this comment, I share your updates with my wife every time you post. Know that you have tons of people hoping and praying for ya!
Me too! Send it straight to my wife. Photos hit me in the feels - loving the progress!
Hello! It's been an average week with the exception of today. He had a significant Brady event that lasted about a minute. For those that don't know, it's when premature babies sort of just forget to breath for a bit, and it drops their heart rate. They are super common, and normally nothing to worry about. He had one today that took a little longer than normal for him to come out of and they had to crank his oxygen to 100 to fully pull him out.
Glad to hear he’s doing good. This may be a silly question but how much physical contact do premature babies like this get?
Has he gained weight? It seems like he's noticeably chubbier than last week's picture.
The Brady events are super scary at first, especially in the NICU when all the alarms and stuff go off. My son had them all the time the first few weeks, so we got used to it eventually and just tickled his foot or gave him a little rock before the nurses even noticed most of the time.
Do you have a gofundme or something dude? I have been so happy to see the updates that he’s getting better and stronger. Really rooting for you guys, I can’t imagine how hard this all must be.
I'm so incredibly happy to hear he's doing well. Give him snuggles from Aunt LawMom! Love and hugs to you and your wife too!
Man I love this little guy so much, how is that even possible! I look at my boy sleeping on the monitor and all I can think is how badly I hope you'll be doing the same thing in a few months. You are such a strong family, keep it up Dad and we can't wait for next week's update!
He's getting bigger & stronger. Great news! Don't forget to look after yourselves.
We were in the NICU for 112 days with mine - after 2 years, you can’t even tell!
I’d love to see a pic of u holding up his little hand or little foot just for size comparison I can’t even comprehend how ridiculously cute his teeny tiny feet’s are! He’s such a strong dude! I love these updates keep em coming! Let mom know we’re thinking of her too and hope she’s doing well. Praying for your family op
I've got one of those! I think the week 3 update is one of him on my chest and us both holding our hands the same way. I'll be she gets to sees this one. Thank you so much for your support!
Prayers from me brother keep thinking positive and positive things will happen!
He's getting big!
He's looking less like a preemie and more like just a (very) small baby!
So glad to be able to follow you to read these updates. I'm praying for you guys. It's a tough road.
He's gettting so big!!!! Glad to hear all is relatively well. We're with you all in spirit!
Little by little, bit by bit. Bigger and bigger.
Man he is just adorable.
Come on little guy!
Wishing you and your family well.
It’s easy .. I see a strong kiddo, I upvote
I missed your original post, how many weeks was he born? He's tiny. Looks alert though. The NICUs are amazing. Had ours in there for a week at 38 weeks. I saw babies smaller than him in there too.
The full crazy story is in the comments of my first post. If you view my profile it should be the 7th from the top. He was 25 weeks and 5 days when he was born, but he was growth restricted due to the placenta. So he was small even for his age. He was only 14.4 ounces when he was born.
NICU dad here. Just wanted to say I’m here for you. It’s not easy, but you’ll get through. Stay strong.
Me too. If you know, you know.
He's so big. So happy for you and your boy.
That's great, my friend. Strength beyond Strength. Fight on, big fella!
He’s a little hero. Thank you for the inspiration. Sending positive healing vibes to you all.
I’m living for these updates
Hey man, me and my wife are cheering for your little guy. I can’t imagine what your fam is going through but it looks like you’ve got a tiny fighter for a son. Praying for the best
So so glad to hear your family is doing well. I think about you guys all the time :)
I'm an intuitive thinker with internalized emotions. It's the hardest thing for me to express emotions. But from one dad to another, it hurt my heart to read what you've been through and imagine going through this. Even though everything is getting better, I'm so sorry you're having to experience a part of you go through this and know there isnt much you can do except the best you can. I pray you and your wife get all the rest you can, and that you get to bring that bundle of hope home.
I've been there with my first. He is 15 now and the memories of the NICU will stay with us forever. Get some rest and buy the nurses ice cream. Don't feel guilty about leaving to taking a shower or eat some food. Love you bro. You got this.
Every week lil’ guy is bigger and stronger. See you next week I hope with more progress photos.
These positive updates bring me joy. Very happy for all of you.
1lb 10oz, yes! Glad to hear that. Anxiously awaiting for him to continue growing. Such a beautiful boy.
As a nurse, I just can’t get over how tiny he looks net to the IV tubing and stopcocks! It’s so fun watching him bigger each week!
What a little champion. Soon he’ll be crawling at this rate! Hang in there, I can imagine it’s exhausting (emotionally and physically) for both of you. You’ve got a crowd rooting for him and you all!
I've been following your photos and am so glad you are having a good week.
Hang in there little man, and mom and dad!
He’s getting big!
He is getting so much bigger!
Thanks for updating us - can tell you my wife and I are thinking of you guys and wishing you the best!
Looking good little dude! Keep it up, but quit trying to scare your parents with holding your breath.
WHY do they have a RAM cannula on your sweet tiny angel 😂 that thing is way too big!
Baby’s looking strong and it sounds like he has an awesome dad behind him.
Go little guy!
Someday the doctors and nurses will tell stories about the little boy who just refused to give up and proved all the "experts" wrong.
Sending all my love to you, brother. You have this army of dads sending you thoughts, well-wishes, prayers, and love. Take care of yourself.
Good vibes and love your way, friend.
You guys are going to be an amazing family. So much love there already!!!
