Fucking crazy it’s been almost two years since season 1….
Also, not a news since they already said it was this year. I hoped for a release date tbh so a little disappointed
I'm holding off on another play through till the update drops
Yeah, this is gonna print money.
Unless the remaster is going to be below expectations wouldn't it be smarter to space out the releases of the game and and the show to reap the most benefit? Say, September for the remaster which alone would give enough publicity to the franchise and then another push 3 months later with the tv show for the fanbase to reunite and gain extra follower-base.
Still never got around to playing Blood and Wine and the other DLC, so if it gets a PS5 boost I will definitely check it out
You should get round to that. The dlc is just as good as the main game.
They're both really good. I think my favorite quest in all of Witcher is two ghosts of a married couple wanting a divorce after death over her husband playing Qwent with the other ghosts.
Oh man, Blood and Wine was so damn good. Im thinking of playing through it all over again honestly.
I haven't played Blood and Wine yet but the other one was so good i'm excited for the last bits.
Do it. Both expansions are better than many full games
Blood and Wine is excellent. It would basically be a great stand alone game all by itself.
From what I understand we'll be getting better textures and ray tracing, which has a huge impact on games with day night cycles.
I still haven’t beaten the game yet
Wonder what the Netflix based content is, i assume it's probably just some armor or swords but it would be nice to see a couple new quest.
One of the devs mentionned on twitter something vague about it being a very cool surprise. I wonder if maybe it's new costumes for some of the characters with the actors faces ? (like Geralt, Yen and Dandelion, at most i'd guess)
Yeah I am dying go see Netflix Nilfgaardian ballsack armor as DLC
Hopefully it’s the song
It's also getting free DLC inspired by Netflix show.
Sounds like it's just a suit of armor, but it could be more.
Cavil skin, when?
I was watching WitcherCon and what made me miss playing TW3 most was the soundtrack. It always hits in right place
The soundtrack is one of the best parts of the game - it's amazing
We have lots of Witcher 3 songs in our DnD ambient and battle music playlists and it's fantastic!
It genuinely is my favorite game of all time
You should try Thronebreaker. The story, characters and music really matches the quality of the Witcher series and some other AAA games. If you don't like card games well at least give the music a listen.
I've been binging Critical Role these past few months (I'm at campaign 2 episode 96 now, started with c2e1 late March), and they used a lot of Witcher 3 music for ambience. That music just hits right.
It was spot-on right from the start. My favorite is still the White Orchard theme. I’ve also never heard music that fit the ambience as well as the crones’ theme. It was as disturbing and uncomfortable as the witches themselves, without being overwrought.
I missed it. Is there a link?
i still listen to it regularly, especially the skellige tracks
Elf lady murdered it (in a good way)
Cyberpunk's soundtrack was great too,
I never ever get tired of listening to Fields of Aard Skellige.
my DM uses Witcher music in his mix for the background ambiance of our D&D games.
Yeah, that "pam pa ram" is such a masterpiece
I'm excited to give Witcher 3 another playthrough with this update. New content, ray tracing, and possibly DLSS is just glorious.
0% chance it won't include dlss. I'm stoked
hopefully some QOL updates too, downloaded a bunch of mods when I did a second playthrough last year and my god it was such a smooth experience
It will certainly have DLSS. All RTX games afaik have DLSS; the only ray tracing game without it is RE8 which is an AMD-partnered game and isn't "RTX". Witcher 3 was/is an Nvidia-partnered game (Hairworks, etc).
Can’t wait to give it more than the good old college try for once.
Not certain how required dlss is for this title. I was getting 4K 45 FPS on a 1080.
And it gives me a reason to not feel guilty for having this game on my backlog. I can just wait until this update to play...maybe.
Do we know if this is free for complete edition owners only? What if I have the base game and the season pass. Does that also get a free upgrade?
Last they said it's free for any previously bought version of The Witcher 3.
They need all the goodwill they can get after the Cyberpunk fiasco. No way they charge money for the upgrade.
Wasn't this announced ages ago? Weird that they've basically announced it again with no more news.
Basically they're confirming that it won't be delayed
Gotta fire the PR machine back up, get the internet to love you again
This is the third time they’ve said this is coming out with no information about anything in game that’s being updated. Why can we not see a screenshot? It’s been over 9 months now since it was revealed to exist
Because they've probably been bogged down trying to put bandaids on Cyberpunk lol
I'm sure CDPR aren't going to bother "showing" anything ahead of release for awhile. They understand how badly they fucked up, and want so desperately to be the darling of gaming industry again.
This is how the CDPR machine works - you hype stuff up until release without any info
DLC is not exclusive to next gen
I wish they would remake the first Witcher using the Witcher 3 engine. I played the first for an hour or so after I played 2, but I just couldn't get into it. Then 3 came out and there's no way I can go back to 1.
Same but man, that would be a project. The first one hasn't aged well at all and you'd practically be making a new game from the ground up. Even the audio/story/writing stuff is kinda rough. It was made in a time when 'Euro-jank' was in full affect. Shit, I think Gothic 3 was a bigger game than that first Witcher game.
I wanted to play the series all the way starting from the first one. And I'm stuck at a part in it.
I still remember the E3 trailer and how blown away I was with the graphics, such as how the charactera looked, the lighting, the fire effects, the darkness and the smoke effects. The one we got was really watered down and bright. I do hope the next-gen update has such level of details.
What’s crazy to me is that the game was still beautiful. They absolutely downgraded a lot of the graphics from that E3 trailer, and they eventually admitted to it, months after release. That was frustrating at first. But aside from a few minor complaints, like the trees bending sideways like rubber in the slightest breeze, the visuals were still superb. I’m definitely curious to see how the next-gen version looks.
Yeah that'd be really sweet. The Killing Monsters trailer was so sick.
I think what I could really go for above anything else is a higher draw distance.
Still excited for this and some new DLC is cool but if this is all they are going to share about it over a year since announcement I am definitely disappointed. Maybe it will still come out in the later parts of this year but the lack of a release date or even screenshots doesn't inspire much confidence.
I'm sure CDPR are currently in a "don't show a fucking thing until it's out" mode right now. Honestly it's the correct thing to do given their unfortunate situation.
Awesome! I really really hope we get some camera distance settings, i want the camera a bit closer while roaming around.
i hate when the camera is so close a 1/3rd of the screen is the back of your guy. i like the old school god of war games' camera. nice and spacious
This is so bizarre to me! Practically the first thing I did when I first bought TW3 was go searching for a mod to increase the FOV, couldn't stand so much of the screen being taken up by Geralt's back.
There’s a mod for that called immersive cam if you’re on pc. I have mine set up similar to god of war and it’s very nice.
Oh goodness. How did you feel about Mass Effect Andromeda's camera? It was so close I got nauseous
I want the opposite, options for higher fov/camera distance
Suppose its safe to assume it will be coming next to S2.
Any word on what sort of improvements they are doing for pc?
There should be a DLSS support considering it's also a Nvidia title just like Cyberpunk 2077.
So I may actually beat this game, holy shit.
Hm, I've been itching to replay this game but I think I'll wait now, would be nice to do it after upgrade.
Having only played the first and second, is it about time to jump on the Witcher 3 train? GOTY is on sale right now on Steam for $9.99 which seems like a good deal? Especially if nextgen update is free.
It is 100% worth it, especially with the DLCs included. I’m envious — I wish I could experience the game for the first time again. Enjoy the ride.
Depends. Does 100+ hours of high quality storytelling, gameplay, and soundtrack for $10 sound like a good deal to you? Because it does to me!
Buy it and wait for the next gen update. What a treat that will be.
If only they could remake the combat mechanics, it's what I dislike the most about this game, by far. (I like everything else though). It's the only thing that keeps me from replaying this game.
What didn’t you like about them? I bought combat was a big improvement over W1 and 2.
Download the Witcher 3 enhanced edition with the Lazarus project addon
I know at this point CDPR can't promise anything for fear of missing, but it would be quite the PR move to drop this and the CP2077 update back to back.
I can not wait for the cp2077 update, I played thru to platinum on ps5 and I'll play another 100 hours or so on the next gen update version. Been waiting for the Witcher update to play through it again as well.
Thinking they can fix everything with PR is exactly how they got into this mess. CP2077 is a non-game, forget about it.
It already looks really stunning on Series X with an LG CX. Was the first game I loaded up when I got the CX. It was so wonderful.
I hope the DLC isn't the Netflix show's take on Nilfgaardian armor. What were they thinking? It looks so bad.
Is it just me or Geralt’s face is kinda different?
some screenshots or gameplay vids comparing the existing with the update would have been nice. i just picked up the game and added a ton of mods to it, one of which is the HD reworked mod which apparently adds a lot of high res textures but obviously that's the work of some dedicated fans so it won't be as expansive, so I'm wondering if this update will remaster the game in addition to adding raytracing.
The person behind HD reworked is probably working with CDPR to bring this mod to the next-gen update:
How about new faces for NPCs? Seeing the same faces on so many non-major characters was the biggest immersion killer by far.
Keep wanting to buy it on ps4 for the free update but wait for the PS5 update in fear the price will go up. But probably not worth holding onto the backlog so long
I *just* bought witcher 3.. should i wait for this before playing?
So should i buy the ps4 version then get the ps5 version for free or get the ps5 version straight away? I have already played the game 2 times in pc
At least we'll have Witcher 3 and GTAV refreshes to tide over the pushed-back stuff this year. Haven't played either since release myself, some QOL and a few extras will be great.
Gonna try to play this game for like the 5th time with this update. The combat is just straight trash I can never get hooked.
This won't fix that, so if you don't like it there's really no reason to try again
If you are playing on PC check out the witcher 3 enhanced edition mod. It adds to the combat system among other things.
So, considering this will be a free update for owners, will it be an actual update for the already existing game I have or will it appear as a new game in my steam library?
I just bought it on the steam sale. Should I wait to experience it in all its upgraded graphical glory?
Going to be devil's advocate here, if you're the type of person like myself that doesn't have the time to re-dedicate 150ish hours to the main game and expansions again when the update comes out, I would honestly wait.
If you typically replay amazing lengthy RPG's give it a play now. Graphically it has held up well. Then on 2nd play through you will be able to appreciate all of the extra bells and whistles.
You've waited this long to play it, wait a bit longer till the update is released and play it in the best possible quality available to you. It's a wonderful game already, the next gen improvements will only make it moreso.
I am wondering if they will just make it a new Steam edition for it and just give you both if you bought one of them. So can play original if you want still and also get all the achievements again.
So is there any chance the netflix free dlc(armours and swords from the show.) be available on ps4/xobx one.
They said DLCs will be available for old-gen as well.
I'm super excited for this, but I can't help but think that geralt looks weird in the complete edition art.
They also spelled 'Netflix' wrong.
I tried playing this game twice and got too intimidated by all the "?" All over the map. Guess it's time for round three.
Old news? Wasn't this leaked in the CDPR files a month or so ago lol
Does this make it a buggy mess like Cyber Punk?
Is this going to be free on PC? I sure hope they have DLSS built in as the game was tough to run before.
Might as well ask here when i played on release on keyboard and mouse the game was good but the combat was awkward felt clumsy and non-reactive.
Do we know if saves carryover for this new version? Like I recently completed the main game again on PC, could I continue that save into the expansions with these new graphics settings?
Will they update for free for PC users who have the currently complete edition?
Yes it will be for all current owners
What this update really needs is a way to put all the spells on the controller as button combinations. I used a mod for that on pc and it makes the combat 2000% better. It should be part of the game.
there was a time where i would have been happy and almost proud of CDProjekt RED
So you are unhappy about a free update?
This is a healthy and totally sane relationship with a video game company.
shouldn't they be more focused on fixing the mess that cyberpunk is?
Like for real. I’ve seen the Witcher tv show and listened to the audiobooks… is it worthwhile to play the games? Bonus question: can/should I start from the first game? Bonus bonus question: how do I play the games?
The 3rd is one of my all time favorite games. Good story and fun combat. The DLCs are really good too.
I started with 3. You don’t need 1 and 2.
How can CDPR afford to work on this if Cyberpunk 2077 isn't even finished yet?
Next generation update is being developed by Saber Interactive.
They’re never going to finish CP2077. Go back and look at the very specific language they used in press releases after the initial release. “Bugs and performance” is all they talk about.
When to Skyrim-esque "they're re releasing it again!?" jokes start?
It's an update so not really the same
Hopefully never, since this will be a free update for everyone who already has it.
Honestly I never understood the Skyrim thing, they literally only re-released it to one further gen. There's way worse examples of porting to everything.
Amazing how people forgot how bad they handled Cyberpunk...😂😂🤣
CDPRs antics with Cyberpunk aside, Witcher 3 is a genuine game of the generation contender. People tend to care about games that are already precious to them. Shocker.
Why people continue to pay for these half assed “remakes” is beyond me. It was once reserved for 15+ year old classics so that people could pass the experience on to another generation. Now it’s just developers putting a shiny new lighting over everything and holding their hands out for more cash. Stop it.
It's free update...
People enjoy them that's simply it - you don't that's simply it for you - you dont speak for me or millions others that don't feel the same as you. Just pointing out facts here, and you're welcome to keep not enjoying something that we do
The answer is simple.
This post is amongst the top posts of the day in nearly every gaming sub.
The Witcher 3 is a good game and the update is free if you own it already, so what exactly is the problem here? You want these guys to just stop making games because people didn’t like the last one they did?
I don't get this post. People aren't mindless haters. You can like a game from a publisher but also call them out when they fuck up another game, nothing new there. The difference is that since CDPR doesn't publish a lot of games, well, the latest game is going to be the one discussed the most.
Yeah, I played that already. Can we get some new shit please?!
Just fix non-English audio, please
There's new lipsync tech, it will be used in Ghost of Tsutshima PS5 upgrade, maybe others. They can always use that.
They used Jali tech for lip sync for CP77 to resolve that problem. There is a huge chance they use it here too
Will my main save file transfer over to the upgraded version? I made it about halfway though the campaign before giving up but I’m interested in picking it back up once this gets released.
Will this be available on pc as well?
Have they stated if trophies and save files transfer over? I'm like 2 or 3 trophies from the platinum, and was wondering if they'd transfer over or not so I can finally finish it
They’ve announced at least the XSX one a while ago, I know because I’ve been delaying playing it til it drops to enjoy fully.
