I agree that would be dope. Have they even added any new SRVs with odyssey? Thats what I was expecting but I'm an Xbox player so I've been trying not to look at oddysee content so I don't get too jealous.
No new SRVs, SLFs, ships, etc.
My guess is that's exactly why they haven't released what they have. Console players would riot
I was sceptical as with any of fdevs releases but I was certain FDev would surely give us a new SRV to use as the Odyssey expansion was entirely set on the surface.. It was only logical that for an expansion centered entirely on traversing the surface of planets and moons .. that they would make a new ground vehicle...
Big wishes of mine:
Any actual space content would be nice.
They could also fix the current ship lineup. Some of them badly needs a balance-pass. An SLF-style Utility Shuttle would be nice. The shield-meta could be nerfed a bit...
Right. Like I hit that ship with every shit of a laser till it overheats and hit it some more with the minigun and then again with the laser and still has shields. Like this level 2 bastard has a senzu bean for ships or something.
I've been shouting for this for years. A shuttle we can put in the internal bay, so we can leave our big ships in orbit and shuttle down to a planet's surface for instances where there are no large pads or exploration. No FSD or overdone controls, just something small with a single small hardpoint.
I just want them to make smuggling viable.
Or just money making to be balanced in general, I want to get rich doing fun things not just hauling.
Well... we haven't seen new ships for years.
There is no reason not to have several ships that can do the same role. Look at cars, we have dozens of cars in the same class. So why would having a choice of aeveal ships for a single class be bad?
As an imperial devotee;
We dont even have a medium empire ship...
There's still plenty of ships in elite lore that aren't in-game as of yet... i'm still holding out home for the Panther Clipper
Imagine if we had actual drop ships where we could carry a squad of players into ground combat locations. And they could do what the npcs do and jump from the ship while its hovering. Then the pilot could continue to provide air support while the ground crew runs the mission.
Yeah, I think the correct pathway is more gameplay options that then need new ships. I just don't think it makes much sense to build new ships that don't add to the gameplay.
I’d be down for ships that fill the same niche just from different manufacturers, honestly. Allows for more aesthetic choices
A dedicated explorer ship (few or no hardpoints, very light hull, Class 7/8 FSD slot) in the 100M credit price range would be cool. The closest thing is the Anaconda which isn't really designed to do anything particularly well and is outclassed by smaller ships with the double-engineered FSD
The space of ship roles is huge and definitely isn't completely tiled by the 38 ships. And if you want lore, it's coming up all the time - this company merges with that company, this one gets bought up by some entity, etc. That's all you need. And Odyssey easily gives some reasons for new small ships - small Federal or Alliance ships, or a small armored Imperial ship.
Um. We sit next to nuclear explosions to fuel or ships and have FSDs that in real life they say theoreticlly would need all the energy inside jupiter just to make a wormhole. But atmospheric pressure is an issue for these same ships...
A theme? How about 9 years of R&D?
I’d give FDev until the end of 2021 before they start adding new stuff in. They had a bad release so they need to fix the bugs and such. Really great seeing the progress that update 6 brought so I’m excited to see update 7. I’ve heard that they’re planning to add more content to odyssey in terms of actual stuff that we want (weapons, axi, etc) so I’d probably give it til the end of Q1 2022 before we hear anything about ships or any big additions.
we have SO many, i dont see the point when other areas are so underutilised such as SRVs
I second this. It's been to long since new ships were added. Where is our promised panther clipper?
Won't happen, they probably ran out of snake names now...
Still no Rattlesnake tho, right?
What do you think they do all day in there at FDEV? I mean there was a time when new content was added…maybe not frequently but it did show up in the form of new ships and new fighters in somewhat reasonable timescale, so they clearly can. What are they working on day to day?
Probably on fixing the failure Odyssey is.
If you wan a sad inside look, go read some reviews of FDev the company from Glassdoor (employees reviews of the company)
I believe you are correct!
A big shake-up to the things we all take for granted in space travel might breathe a breath of fresh air into the game.
After jumping through a few systems with unscoopable stars and 25% fuel left. That is a good Idea.
I don't think black holes could provide the kind of fuel we need. But maybe an other kind of FSD that would be more stable in witch space (more range? Able to jump directly to planets?) could be fueled only by those.
Ships need to be unique though, there needs to be a reason for having them over others. Odyssey was a great opportunity for some specific ground based ships to be added (downward facing hardpoints, easier to land etc.)
I can think of a bazillion other things we need before more ships.
Would love this!
i would love a whole new manufacturer that makes at least 1 ship for every niche. a whole new design of ships and one for each gameplay type.
I just be happy if you could play the game for more than an hour without having to reset after a crash
Yes to more planetary surface vehicles.
Elite to me is still at its core about flying around cool space ships. I always want more cool space ships to fly, that's my priority. I don't care about where it fits in the meta or whatever, I prefer my Mamba over my FDL because it's cooler to me (And it has a center seat, but that's unrelated).
I get your point, I would argue that I would really like to fly bigger boats into combat. (Of course we have the issue of docking and so on).
I looked up those old ships. I would enjoy the boa and panther clipper
I'd finally like a ship where I can switch to the rear turret seat, like I did in Elite+ ;)
We haven't had new ships in 3 some years. Besides that being an incredibly long time for a live service, there are a lot of flavors that need to be covered. Especially since, say it with me: ED is a game about flying ships (surprised Pikachu face).
Devs either don’t care about the game or aren’t allowed to work on cool stuff. I’ve never played a game with more wasted potential than elite.
We need M pad for T-7.
We need ships like the Type 9 that is slow and hard to turn while interdicted.
A hauler with a massive payload that can turn huge profits. Attracting pirates and opportunists. but is completely unable to defend itself. It would have to hire some protection for a run across the galaxy, resulting in some dramatic scenarios.
Lol. Thats terrible and only 10 lightyears more than my Hauler with all stock outfitted parts.
We need caves and underwater exploration, we need new SRV's specific to exploring that gameplay, such as submersible SRV's. We need mechs to assist in ground combat. We need new fighters. We need shuttlecraft to carry us to atmospheric worlds from our ship in orbit.
The Panther Clipper will be coming soon; my guess is within Odyssey. It’s been leaked here and there for the past couple of years, and it’s pretty much complete last I checked.
I betting some will show with the console drop for odyssey.
We need actual fun instead of running around for hours a day barley getting anything done... I dont want a game that makes me takes hours I dont f*ckin have just to get FSD drives that are worth having.
Sounds like you are doing something very very wrong in the first half.
Maybe they could add getting out of your ship on foot with missions where you play on foot. Can't be as hard as creating a 1 to 1 scale of the galaxy.
Agreed that we need more vehicles overall. Along with more activities and missions to use them.
A pre set mission guide would be awesome. Want a better FSD select missions in this group to get it.
Yea since they’re adding ground missions a ship launched troop carrier would be cool. A heavy SRV essentially with a multi cannon on top.
You mean you aren't excited by the mamba light?
As excited as I am for the heat death of the Universe
Yes, Panzer Clipper when
I still want my Imperial Trader with three *spinning* nacelles.
You can accomplish the beat up look with cosmetics. I have such a look for my mining cutter. I'm not sure the cargo ship idea works given the modularized cargo lore.
I think thats exactly why it could work. For every 10 units they could put a visible crate on the ship, maybe on a mag strip or something.
And Surprisingly I still haven't ever even hit any lag even around other players in a galaxy sized game. So maybe a fps dlc that allows foot based travel and fighting could work if its not to big or to many people go on foot. Maybe set a player limit and have a roster giving times for free slots.
They should make a system where you can engineer your engineering. Like make 4 new random things we have to grind for so we can engineer our engineered modules.
Id also like to live out my dream of launching like 5 SLFs at once and swarming pirates.
Take parts of existing ships and make your own. Check out my home made annaadder mk3
I'd like it if we could design & build our own ships with tech we've obtained as a CMDR. That way we could display our individuality but all within the bounds of the ED space physics etc. We should be able to select a base chassis then build from there. One can dream I suppose. 💭
I want guardian starships similar in style to the slfs (vulture sized ship named arrow, krait sized ship called spear, corvette sized ship called sword). I love the design of the guardian fighters guardian starships wouid be awesome.
Once I found out that the anaconda is the only ship that have a damage model, I wanted to have it on all of them.
They don't care about your wishes. We all know this
Something that can jazz up combat to be more than who-can-get-through-the-other's-shields-first.
Elite need medium ships.
We really don't need any new ships. Every role is filled, and at this point it'll either make existing ships obsolete, or make it so that we have reskins of existing ships.
