Medical marijuana for anxiety?

I believe this is acceptable, if strictly used as prescribed by a medical professional, and not done this way for the sole purpose of circumventing recreational use laws.

I would go as far to even say that recreational use of cannabis is fine under the Bible. Drawing a parallel between alcohol and cannabis is quite hard because we currently don't have a good way to compare "intoxication" between the two. Generally, taking one puff of a joint will get you much more "intoxicated" than drinking half a beer/glass of wine. Disregarding all that, God created cannabis. God gave man the ability to create alcohol. Some people even speculate that cannabis may have been a main ingredient anointing oil in the Bible. As long as you are not overdoing it and creating a problem like you could do with alcohol, I don't really see an issue. God gave man domain over all the fauna and flora.

Using medicine to treat an illness is not a sin. I hope it helps.

It is acceptable when prescribed as a treatment by a doctor.

It's OK to use marjiuana for medical reasons but honestly I don't know if using marjiuana for anxiety and PTSD is such a good idea. Has a specialist recommended it to you? If not, it would probably be wise to consult it with someone who actually has a degree in mental health. Everyone is different but I heard stories of (and was witness to) pretty bad cases of marijuana induced paranoia. I think CBD products can actually be a better choice for you (because it's THC that makes your brain kind of going in loops- it's hard to describe but if you ever talked to a person who was high, I think you know what I mean) but then again, I'm not a specialist. Whatever you'll decide, please be safe.

If you are not taken out of control of yourself, as in drunkenness or high, no. A glass of wine is not sin, drunkenness is. Taking a Lorcet is not sin. Taking 4 to nod out is sin. Medical marijuana I do not believe to be sin. Twisting one and blazing until you green out is…. Antidepressants certainly have unfortunate side effects. You have to balance benefit and side effects. Depersonalization and flat affect are terrible. I pray you find relief.

Just a note, have you tried EMDR therapy?

God lets it come from the soil He made and grow in the sun and water He also made. It was growing long before the US Government outlawed it. As with anything, use in moderation. But I don’t see why it would be bad.

Our lord made this plant to heal us. It’s not a man made drug. I hope in the future more Catholics come around to it

Maybe this will give you some reassurance. This question has been asked multiple times on Catholic answers live and I’ve always heard them say as prescribed medicine it’s ok. Pretty sure they all say “idk” about recreational use though, I think it would take a statement from the usccb before Catholic media would say either way.

From my understanding as long as you obtain it legally (not funding illegal activity)

A substance is a substance. If you're going the route of medication, there's no reason not to pick one that has a low side effect profile and low chance of developing a dependence - getting off of weed is actually easier than tapering off of many antidepressants
