Honest opinion – I think AVA is better than Blink-182

I love how every person on earth receives music and it can instantly make them feel a certain way or instantly relate to maybe certain lyrics. It’s incredible!

For most parts I feel the same.

AVA>blink, no question. I figured most on the AVA subreddit felt this way, lol. I still love blink, but nowadays I consider it “music I listened to in my youth.” Current blink (with Skiba) isn’t even on my radar and I want nothing to do with. Neighborhoods and DED are fucking awesome though and I still listen to semi-regularly. But anything before that is mostly just nostalgia at this point. AVA, on the other hand, I consume daily.

Are you me? Because this is exactly how I feel

WDNTW is nothing like Blink, I understand and accept your opinion. But 2 very different bands that generally sound nothing alike. So I do see the need for a comparison. You prefer the musical style of AVA good for you, I prefer Blink but still love AVA but I don't compare the 2.

Blink definitely peaked with Untitled/Self-titled songwriting wise - has kind of been downhill ever since, while I still enjoy their music.

I think Dream Walker and Chasing Shadows are better than any Skiba-era Blink music but put Tom, Mark & Travis together and it’s gold!

Image
GebrokenZwaard

That's probably because Mark and Travis wanted to work with a producer and push blink into a known yet new territory.

Blink-182 has been a shell of its former self since Tom left…. that’s not due to Matt Skiba…. That’s due to the cluster fuck of ghost writers and producer overreach in the recording process…. Ever since California came out I feel zero sense of Mark, Matt, & Travis have written anything without a ghost writer or producer overreaching. The reason why Angels & Airwaves have been kicking ass lately is because of Aron let’s Tom and Ilan work things out and write their songs! Aron does help to be the mediator between the two but?! He never writes or overstep’s things in the creative process of things…. Unlike John does…. John has been quoted in a interview saying?! “That doesn’t sound like Blink.” Who the fuck are you to say that this doesn’t sound like the band that your producing!?!?! Let the band write whatever the fuck they want!…. It’s the job of the producer is to help bring the artist potential out and be the middle man to help voice each other the band’s members likes and wants in for the music to be heard and cohesive!…. NOT TO direct and say this is not this band…. so let me tell you what this band supposed to sound like…..

I have nothing against guest writers or bands collaborating with outside writers.

As I age I seem to be drawn more towards AvA than blink…

I agree. Especially new blink. I don’t even bother anymore.

I don't mind the Skiba era. It just doesn't do it for me (nothing to do with Skiba being in the band).

I didn’t even know who Blink was when I was introduced to AvA. When I discovered Blink, it was like - hmmm this is okay but I love the heart and soul that was present in AvA. I like my music to have deep meanings.

Can you tell us a little more? AvA never came down here to South America so I can’t really say I know how that experience of an intimate show is.

Image

That’s funny, I honestly can’t even compare the two. Blink is legendary for me, Ava is a little side project I enjoy from time to time. Edit: not sure why down voted, but I’ve seen blink sell 20,000 tickets. Ava can’t even sell out a 2,000 venue in my city.

As I get older, I find that blink really doesn’t have anything left to say musically or lyrically

Image
AssGasorGrassroots

I felt like this from the first time I saw The Adventure video on Fuse. It was everything I loved, elevated to a new level.

I have thought the same for quite a few years. Before I think I liked blink more because I was younger and it hits so hard at that age. But as AVA continues and actually comes close to matching blink as far as total music I think it is clear. I do also think before it’s said and done AVA will outlast blink because Tom will do it until he is dead

AVA will always be my favorite band. WDNTW changed my life in 06. That being said, I’d love to travel to an alternate reality where the 05 Blink album happened just to see what it would have sounded like

Image
yellowsupercar87788

I don't even listen to pre untitled blink anymore

Image
boxcarpilot182

I've always thought about it, you're absolutely right.

WDNTW kinda sucks haha. AVA as a whole is mostly bad. If Tom wasn’t in the band, I wouldn’t give a shit about that band and most likely neither would a lotttt of you.

Yes. Me.

mokomb84

Yep. Hard agree.

I know where you are coming from. The first time I really listened to blink was awesome. Such an amazing rebellious freeing way to express myself. I spent all day listening to Mark Tom and Travis Show, I felt lonely and depressed and blink helped a lot. But I met AvA along the road and with that the way I see the world had changed. AvA has a more mature, meaningful songwriting. I really like it a lot. All of my friends call me “the biggest blink fan” but when I come to think about, AvA is actually my favorite band.

danash182

I think self titled blink is the best album Tom put out but after than many AVA takes the cake. Might put dude ranch in second but it's a different vibe

AvA is waaaay better imo
